FC Halifax Town: Feel-good factor is back, says Heath

It was Halifax’s second convincing win over Football League opposition in five days following their victory over Sheffield United last Tuesday.

Town were 1-0 down at half-time but roared back after the interval to knock half-a-dozen past their bewildered opponents.

“Did Morecambe underestimate us because we’re a non-league club? There are lots of factors but all we can do is keep trying to do what we did,” said Heath.

“You want the crowd to be buoyant but I don’t get carried away.

“It’s a great day and you want the supporters to come away feeling good.

“They had too many bad times last season, but we’re not getting carried away.

“We’ve had a great result and played really well.

“Jim (Bentley, manager) and all his staff from Morecambe have been very complimentary about us and said how fantastic we played, which is really good.

“I’m not getting carried away but it’s good for the supporters that the feel-good factor is back.”

Heath was happy with his team’s first-half display, despite Town going in 1-0 down at the interval.

“I thought we didn’t deserve to be behind after the first-half,” he said.

“I thought we had more opportunities in the first-half (than the second). We had a lot of the ball around the (Morecambe) box in better positions than they got in.

“But it was disappointing to be 1-0 down because it was a sloppy goal to give away - right from where the source was which was our throw-in.

“Then it got switched quickly and (Danny) Hone has gone to pinch it and shouldn’t have done and then the shot’s trickled past Drench on a deflection.

“But I honestly thought we were doing OK in the first-half.

“It was quite bitty, there were lots of stops and starts - too many, and there was no real rhythm.

“But then second-half, we made some changes, and I thought we were superb.”

The Town boss was also pleased to see his team go foe the jugular after going 2-1 up and 3-2 up after the break.

He said: “We could easily have gone 2-1 up and thought ‘well, we’re playing a league team, let’s sit back and hold on, switch to 4-3-3 and put an extra body in midfield, try and sure things up’.

“But we don’t want them to be like that. There will be times during the season when we will sure things up, but we’re in pre-season and we’ve got to let people express themselves.

“What we did was we didn’t let a team off the hook.

“We got two, we got three and we wanted to score more goals.

“And we had the ability to do that.”
