“Yes Sheffield United had more of the ball but I thought we did really well.
“It was an even game but on balance I thought we deserved to win.
“The performance is secondary to the result - there’s no point having a great performance and losing.

“Pre-season results are important though because you want that winning mentality as quickly as you can.
“The result was the icing on the cake but the performance was great as well.
“I thought every single player, whether they started or came off the bench, were all excellent and all brought something to the table.”

Hide AdHeath said defender Cliff Moyo was the stand-out player on the night, but picked out several others who impressed him.
The Town boss said: “I thought Cliff was tremendous. If you’re going to pick a man-of-the-match then I thought he was outstanding.
“There were some top performances out there and it’s harsh to pick somebody out but he was exceptional.
“The front-three in Denton, Burrow and Peniket were all outstanding when they were on and defensively we were superb.
“I rotated the three centre-halves - Garner, Hone and Hotte - and they were superb.
“Down the middle of the pitch there were really good performances and Josh Macdonald had a great 60 minutes.”
