FC Halifax Town: Macclesfield preview

FC Halifax Town arguably face their biggest game since re-forming when they host Macclesfield on Saturday (5.30pm kick off) knowing they will guarantee survival if they win.

Halifax defeated Forest Green 1-0 last Saturday and will guarantee survival with a win against The Silkmen, but a draw or a defeat will open the door for Guiseley or Altrincham to overtake them.

Hamza Bencherif, Matty Brown, Sam Walker and Richard Peniket all trained this week, but Jim Harvey will leave it as late as possible before deciding if any of them will be involved.

Macclesfield lost 1-0 at home to champions Cheltenham last time out, but that is their only defeat in their previous 10 games.

They have won only once in their last eight games away from home but they are guaranteed to finish either ninth or 10th whatever the result.

On-loan Stockport striker Kristian Dennis is their top-scorer with 22 goals in 37 league games, but he is without a goal in his last eight appearances.

Shaquille McDonald’s goal at Forest Green was Town’s first in seven hours of football, while Halifax have lost only once in their last seven home matches.

Halifax are unbeaten in their last nine meetings with Macclesfield, who last won at The Shay back in May 2000.
