FC Halifax Town: Matlock preview

Town boss Billy Heath is calling on his side to show the same attitude from Saturday's win over Morecambe when they play Matlock on Tuesday (7.30pm).

Halifax recovered from being 1-0 down at half-time at the weekend to thrash the League Two side 6-2 thanks to two goals from Richard Peniket and one each for Matty Kosylo, Scott Garner, Josh Macdonald and Tom Denton.

Heath says defender Danny Hone will play no part in the Matlock game after he sustained an ankle injury on Saturday, but triallist Scott Brown, also a defender, is expected to feature.

Heath is looking for the same level of commitment from his side that was evident on Saturday.

“We just need to keep playing games,” he said.

“There’s still one or two things we need to keep looking at.

“The places are still all up for grabs.

“And it’s not about performing at The Shay against Morecambe - it’s seeing how we perform, no disrespect, but against Matlock on a cold Tuesday night.

“The Shay is great, lovely surface, but you’ve got to have the flip side and show the same attitude and desire and that’s what we’re looking for on Tuesday, whatever team we put out.

“We had a triallist on the bench on Saturday we didn’t use but he’ll play at some point to have a look at him.

“Hone won’t play because he’s damaged his ankle, which is concerning. Let’s hope it’s not a long-term thing.”

So far in pre-season, Matlock have lost to Burton Albion 2-1, Chesterfield 3-1 and Nuneaton 2-0, and drawn 0-0 with Mansfield.

Former Town midfielder Liam Needham is among the ranks at Causeway Lane.
