FC Halifax Town: We can sink The Mariners at Wembley, says Burrow

The Mariners are favourites to lift the trophy and potentially make it a double celebration of they can beat Forest Green Rovers in this Sunday’s National League play-off final.

But the Halifax striker insists Town will not be overawed by their opponents and is bullish about his team’s chances.

He said: “There’s no reason why we can’t get a result and lift the trophy.

“We’ve played Grimsby twice this season and it’s one apiece.

“They’re a strong outfit, there’s no two ways about that, and I think they’ve got one of the best budgets in the league.

“They’re definitely one of the best teams at this level.

“But we can win. No-one in our dressing room is thinking about going to Wembley just to have a nice day out and being there to make the numbers up.

“Make no bones about it - we’re going there to win.”

The two clubs could be separated by the National League if Grimsby win this weekend after Town were relegated this season.

Burrow admits the club’s drop to the Conference North will still be in the players’ thoughts when they step out at Wembley.

“It’s going to be in the back of everyone’s mind,” he added. “It’s a disappointing way to end the season after getting ourselves in the position where we could have stayed up.

“From where we were, being dead and buried, we clawed our way into a position where it looked like we were going to stay up.

“It was just demoralising and heartbreaking that we couldn’t get over the line.

“But one of the main motivations for us is that hopefully we can put a smile back on the fans’ faces.

“They’ve had a topsy-turvy season what with the results and what’s happened in the league.

“If we can give them something to shout about and make them happy, that’d be great.

“We definitely owe the fans something to cheer about after how disappointingly the season ended on the final day.”

Burrow admits he may not get the chance to play at Wembley again and will be relishing the occasion.

“It’s definitely the biggest day of my career,” he added. “It might be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“Not many players can say they’ve played there and we’re going to grab the chance with both hands and make the most of it.

“Everyone’s going to be so excited to play. You get nervous before every game but the excitement of playing in front of that many people on that stage is going to be brilliant.”
