FC Halifax Town will play two games a week for more than two months as they try to catch up with Blue Square Bet Conference North rivals.
Postponements have hit the Shaymen hardest of all the teams in the division - partly through the problematic Shay pitch, which has struggled with frost and flooding, but also through prolonged cup runs for both themselves and their opponents.
The result is that Town are now seven games behind top side Chester - who incredibly have twice as many points as the Shaymen after Halifax’s 3-0 reverse at Gainsborough on New Year’s Day.
After only managing three matches in the whole of December, Town will play seven games in January and eight in both February and March.
But that busy run of fixtures, which sees them play on 10 of the next 11 Tuesday nights, won’t start on Saturday after the scheduled game at Gloucester was postponed because Cheltenham, who share the Whaddon Road ground, are at home to Everton in the FA Cup.
Boss Neil Aspin said this postponement had come at a particularly bad time as his side looked to get the Gainsborough defeat out of their system.
“We could certainly have done with a game on Saturday,” he said.
“It’s a real disappointment that we have to wait. But we knew all along that this was going to happen and there’s nothing we can do about it. We’ve just got to play the fixtures when they come along.”
