Bradford in cup heaven

Bradford City have pulled off a huge shock by reaching the Carling Cup final at the expense of Premier League Aston Villa.

The Bantams fell behind to a Christian Benteke goal in the first-half before James Hanson’s equaliser after the interval.

But Andreas Weimann’s late winner on the night was not enough for the favourites in a nail-biting climax, with City going through 4-3 on aggregate.

Bradford will be the first team from the fourth tier of English football to appear in a league Cup final at Wembley, and only the second ever side from the fourth tier in the competition’s final after Rochdale did so in 1962.

They last appeared in a major final in 1911 when they won the FA Cup against Newcastle, and last played at Wembley in 1996 when they won the Second Division Play-Off final against Notts County.
