Parkgate 3 Brighouse Town 0
Town were unable to follow up last weekend’s thumping win as they fell to defeat in South Yorkshire.
Town started brightly, and could have taken the lead on nine minutes. Ryan Hall broke down the right and his cross was met by Joe Mitchell but the midfielder’s shot hit the side netting.
It was against the run of play when a dubious free kick was awarded by the referee. The ball took a ricochet of the wall and landed at Scott Whititngton’s feet and he calmly slotted the ball home from 12 yards.
A poor goal kick found Joe Jagger who put Tom Matthews in, but the ‘keeper made a good save. Four minutes later Matthews was in again but a slip caused him to fire narrowly over.
The Parkgate goal was living a charmed life, as a Henry cross hit the back post and came back to Matthews whose shot was blocked.
Ben Langford looked dangerous for Parkgate but he fired wide before another Hall run had the home side defending, but he shot wide on 40 minutes.
The sucker punch came seconds before the half time whistle when a pass put Langford in down the right, and from the angle he made no mistake.
Town made changes at half time, with Danny Naidole and Ernest Boafo replacing Mitchell and Chris Fisher.
The second half started much like the first with Town attacking and on 48 minutes a good move found James Hurtley in space, but he fired straight into the hands of the ‘keeper.
The home side almost made it 3-0 on 67 minutes when a ball put Langford in againbut Giles made a great save low down to his left.
However, a minute later it was 3-0. A clearance hit one of the Parkgate players from the corner leaving the Town defence stranded and Mick Jones calmly lifted the ball over everybody into the back of the net.
Boafo broke into the box on 80 minutes, but his shot was pushed away for another corner.
