BOSS Neil Aspin was a frustrated man after Saturday’s scheduled Evo-Stik Premier Division clash with Nantwich at the Shay was washed out.

Rising temperatures raised hopes that the worst of the bad weather which began in November was finally over.

But the Shay pitch simply couldn’t take the constant rain that fell in the week leading up to the game.

“This is the most frustrating of all the games that we have had called off,” said Aspin.

“We trained well on Thursday and the players were ready for the game especially after the way we had played at North Ferriby the week before, but the pitch was really bad.

“When you looked across it from the touchline it didn’t look too bad but when you walked on it there was no question that it was unplayable.”

The bad weather was not confined to West Yorkshire with Buxton and Worksop, the two sides regarded as the biggest threats to the Shaymen going on to win their second successive title, also left frustrated.

Buxton had been due to host Ashton United while Worksop were scheduled to travel to north Wales to face second placed Colwyn Bay.

“It would have been doubly disappointing had we not played and everyone else had,” said Aspin, who put his players through their paces on the astroturf pitch at the Shay.

Third placed Matlock Town were the highest ranked team to play and won 4-0 at Retford United while North Ferriby picked up a point from their trip to Northwich.

Kendal suffered a surprise 3-2 defeat at home to Stocksbridge with the South Yorkshire side three up until the 88th minute.

FC United continued their climb towards safety as they came from a goal down to win 2-1 at Hucknall.

TOWN fans wishing to travel on the official supporters bus to Worksop next weekend can book now on 07707 143094. The cost will be £10 and transport leaves the Shay at noon.

Bookings are also being taken for the shuttle bus which will operate on the evening of the club’s Sportsman’s Dinner at the Cedar Court. The cost is £5 and it will pick up at the Three Pigeons at 6.30 and the Belgrave SC at 6.45.
