Town boss Neil Aspin praised his side after a clean sheet against Bolton - and said he was pleased with the performance of fledgling star Conor Qualter.
A first half Lee Gregory header was enough to see Town beat a Bolton Xi at the Shay on Wednesday night.
And after Town beat the second Championship development side in a week, Neil Aspin said he was pleased with the defensive performance.
“I was pleased with a clean sheet. We’ve won games in pre-season but we’ve not kept too many clean sheets and it’s always nice to get one. I think apart from the clear cut chance in the first half we defended well.”
“I’m also pleased about the workrate and the discipline of the team to keep their shape and we created a few chances, we probably should have scored more than we did.”
With Ben Futcher having temporarily returned to Bury, all eyes were on 18-year-old defender Qualter.
“I think any night where Conor plays is a big night because it’s a chance for him to show what he can do. As an 18 year old who has not really played in mens football every game is a big game for him.”
“But he’s got an opportunity, especially with Ben not being here, and I think the lad did well. Since he’s been here he has shown that he can play at this level, I don’t think that’s in doubt.
“He has had a very promising start.”
