Blow to Town’s play off bid

Stalybridge Celtic 2 Halifax Town 1

A goal five minutes from time condemned Town to defeat today and lifted Stalybridge above them in the race for the Blue Square Bet North play offs.

Chris Lynch gave Celtic a 27th-minute lead when he bundled the ball over the line at the far post from a left wing free kick.

But the Shaymen were level within six minutes as Sean Clancy fired home from a James Dean cross.

The game was heading for a draw - a result that would have suited the Shaymen - when Greg Wilkinson’s 30-yarder bobbled over the outstretched arms of Simon Eastwood and into the net for the winner.
