Dan Gardner will return to see a knee specialist next week after a positive first consultation.
The midfield man was stretchered off during the first half of Town’s 2-0 win over Stockport last Saturday.
It was initally feared that Gardner, 23, could be out for some time.
But he told the Courier that the first meeting the specialist had been positive.
He will go back next week for further examination, but so long as there is no damage to the meniscus (knee cartilage) Gardner could be back a few games into the season.
