Scott McManus will miss the start of the season after it was confirmed he needs surgery on his groin.

It was initially hoped that McManus, 23, would not need to go under the knife to fix the problem he has been carrying since last season.

But the club have now confirmed that injections will not cure the problem and that the defender will need surgery.

The news could mean Neil Aspin will move to sign former Bradford City and Exeter full back Luke O’Brien, who is currently on trial.

The Shaymen take on Scunthorpe at the Shay tomorrow afternoon (3pm).
