Jason Jarrett has revealed his shock at being released by Halifax Town and said he’d never been happier on the pitch.

The midfielder has been a regular starter for Town this season, but was shown the door last week.

He said: “I’m really gutted to have left - it came as a shock to me. I went to training on Thursday and got called in to speak to the manager. I thought I was getting called in to talk about a contract and got told I was leaving.

“I was settled and had never been happier. I’ve heard different things about why I left but I don’t think age is anything to do with it and it’s nothing to do with depression or anything like that.

“Some people have also said I was asking for too much money, but that’s not true, or that I stormed down the tunnel at Gainsborough, but I just went to the toilet and came straight back out again.”

Jarrett also paid tribute to Neil Aspin and the Town fans, and said he has already had offers from other clubs.

He added: “There was no falling out or anything like that. I want to thank Neil and his staff for giving me the opportunity to play football again and I wish them all the best for the future.

“I’ve had quite a bit of support from the fans which has justified my thoughts that I was doing something right on the pitch because I did doubt myself a bit and questioned whether I was performing. But the fans have been really good to me and my family.

“There have been a few offers already, some from teams in the same division. I haven’t made any decision yet but fingers crossed it won’t be long until I’m back playing again.”
