FC Halifax Town have appointed Nigel Walker as the club’s new commercial sales executive.
Walker, 42, has been a supporter of the club for over 26 years and will be responsible for arranging sponsorship and other commerical deals.
He takes over from Mark Brier, who left the job earlier this season after less than a year.
Walker admits that becoming part of FC Halifax Town is the ideal job for him.
“It is a dream come true,” he said.
“Short of playing for the club or being the manager, this is the perfect job for me.”
Walker has worked in sales all his life and believes he can bring a fresh approach to the way the club deal with sponsorship, particularly regarding the match day experience for those sponsors willing to spend money with the Shaymen.
“I want that banqueting suite in the East Stand to be full for every game,” he said.
“I’ve seen it full and when it is the atmosphere in there is fantastic.
“We need to make sure we have as many sponsors on board as we can so that we can show people what this football club is all about.
“People have heard of FC Halifax Town and lots of people want to know where the club is and how it is doing.
“We get noticed when we’re winning football matches. Everybody has a story about how Halifax Town has had something to do with their football club and we need to build up the brand again.”
“I want us to get the word out there and let them know what this football club is all about.”
Walker admits that the club’s commercial activity has become stale in recent months, and is keen to use all his experience to inject some new life into that side of the club.
“I’ve dealt with customers at all levels, from small corner shops right through to PLC’s,” he said.
“I can bring enthusiasm and provide a different outlook to it.
“It’s been a little bit stale and we can improve things.”
Walker has been in the job for a week, having started on Monday, and he’ll be at tomorrow’s Conference North game against Droylsden for his first game in his new position.
“I’ve had some productive meetings in my first week and I’m looking forward to putting some of the ideas into place,” he said.
