Metcalfe makes Ashton United switch

Have your say

Scott Metcalfe appears to have played his last game for FC Halifax Town after being allowed to join Evo Stik Premier Division rivals Ashton United on loan until the end of the season.

The winger, who arrived last summer from Trafford, had a spell on loan at Chester earlier this season and has struggled to get back into the side since his return.

“I felt I had to be fair to Scott,” said manager Neil Aspin. “Looking ahead, if we do get promotion he would not be with us next season.

“This gives him an opportunity to look after himself.

“He had a couple of offers but wanted to stay at this level. Ashton fitted the bill and I hope he can do well there.

“There has been no fall out, he has just been unfortunate that he has been competing against Jamie Vardy for a place on the left hand side.”

Metcalfe made more than half of his 26 Town appearances from the bench, including a memorable second half display against Whitby in the FA Cup when he scored one and set up the other for James Dean.

The annual Halifax Town Supporters Club football quiz, originally scheduled for Thursday April 7, has been rescheduled for Thursday April 28 in the South Stand Bar, 8pm.

Teams of four are still required and entries can be confirmed by e-mailing or calling Andy Gilchrist on 07751 110597 (after 6pm).

The Supporters Club have joined forces with AFC Halifax to organise a joint race night on Friday, April 15 at the Volunteer Arms at Copley, 8pm.

Race (£10) and Horse (£3) sponsorship is now available by e-mailing of calling Andy Gilchrist on 07751 110597 (after 6pm). All are welcome to attend.
