Neil Aspin is not looking to replace Ben Futcher until the uncertainly around the big defender’s future is resolved.

Town were told this week that the defender, signed on loan for the season from Bury, had been appointed temporary assistant manager at the club following the departure of Richie Barker.

The club are unsure when, or even if, Futcher will be able to return to the Shay.

With just over a week until the start of the season, Aspin said he was not looking to replace Futcher until the situation becomes more clear.

“The situation with Ben is that he’s on loan to us for the season so we can’t go and sign another player,” he said.

“Whether it means he can’t play for the first few games, I don’t know. It’s a situation which the two clubs will have to decide on.

“As manager I can’t prepare a team thinking that he’s going to be available incase he’s not. It’s an opportunity for others players and we’ve got a couple of options. Ben could get an injury during the season for example, so you’ve got to have other options.”

Town complete their pre-season preparations with a game at North Ferriby tomorrow.
