FC Halifax Town can make their strongest start to a season for five years if they beat Southport at the Shay on Tuesday (7.45pm kick-off).
Town beat Dover 1-0 on Saturday thanks to Scott McManus’ second-half strike and can begin the season with consecutive wins for the first time since 2009 if they beat Southport.
Martin Foyle’s revamped side lost 1-0 to Forest Green at the weekend and have won just once at the Shay in their last 11 visits.
Foyle, who played with Town boss Neil Aspin at Port Vale, signed nine players during the summer, including three from his previous club Hereford.
In the same fixture last year, Kevin Holsgrove got the winner, while Southport beat Town 2-1 in the return fixture in April.
Adam Smith could be in contention to start after appearing as a second-half substitute at Dover.
Simon Ainge will miss the game after being sent-off on Saturday, so Steve Williams or James Bolton is expected to play alongside Marc Roberts if Aspin starts with the 4-3-3 system he finished the win at Dover with.
