Top five finish is still Town’s target - Dean

Town are still on course to achieve their targets this season.

That’s the message from striker James Dean who knows a top five finish is well within the team’s grasp despite recent setbacks.

Two defeats in a week put the skids on the Shaymen’s progress up the Blue Square Bet North table.

But Dean believes the team can go again and secure a place in the end of season promotion play offs.

“As long as we stay in the top five from now to the end of the season I think we have done the job that the manager, the chairman and the directors wanted us to do,” said the striker.

“People have their own ideas on how we should have done, but we started badly.

“Then we went on a little run and hopefully, starting today, we can go on another.”

Double defeat to Nuneaton was a major disappointment, coming as it did after a run of 10 games without defeat.

But Dean added that it would have been remarkable had Town gone right through the rest of the campaign without losing.

“No one would expect us to go through the whole season unbeaten,” he said. “We will probably lose again between now and the end of the season.

“Everyone is dropping points at the moment.

“But it looks even worse for us because we have lost twice in a row to the same side.”

Dean’s thoughts, along with his teammates, have turned to this afternoon’s game against one of his former clubs Harrogate Town.

And he said the Shaymen would be looking to improve their home form and return to winning ways against their Yorkshire rivals.

“They will be up for it,” he said. “And we need to win at home.

“I can’t put my finger on why the home form has been so disappointing.

“I just hope we can turn it round on Saturday.

“A win against Harrogate means the defeats in the last two games are forgotten.

“But we cannot worry about the play offs and where we are going to finish in the league.

“Sometimes when you think too far ahead you get a bit carried away with yourself.

“We just have to take one game at a time and put in 100 per cent. There are still a lot of points to be played for.”

Fans wishing to travel to league leaders Hyde FC on the official supporters’ coach next Saturday can book now by calling 07707 143094.
