Neil Aspin said his FC Halifax Town side gave a professional performance as they set-up an FA Cup first round tie at MK Dons by beating Nuneaton 2-0.
Goals in each half by Lee Gregory and Scott McManus helped Town ease to victory on a chilly afternoon at Liberty Way.
Aspin was happy with his team’s display from back to front as the Shaymen sealed their first away win of the season.
He said: “It’s always going to be a tricky tie if you get a team from your own league away from home but I thought our players gave a really good, professional performance.
“They defended well as a group and scored two great goals so it’s a really satisfying performance.
“You can play it down but in terms of prestige, but getting into the first round is important and with the revenue and prize money it brings.
“I don’t think about the prize money, for me it’s about the football and the players doing themselves justice, which they did today.
“They worked really hard, had a good shape and crowned off with two cracking goals.
“They (Nuneaton) had a few efforts in the first-half which, on another day, could have ended up in the net.
“They’ll be saying they restricted us to not a lot of chances either.
“I was happy with what the players gave in terms of effort and commitment.”
Gregory notched his ninth goal of the campaign in only his 12th appearance, while McManus put the tie beyond doubt with his third of the season.
The Town boss praised both goalscorers and said Gregory is in confident mood after his hat-trick against Welling the previous Saturday.
He said: “Obviously Lee’s in form at the moment and if you get a half chance you want it to fall to Lee but I think we were surprised with that finish.
“It was a really difficult chance and for him to get that in the net it was a fantastic finish.
“He’s full of confidence at the moment and if we can create chances for him there’s a good chance he can finish them off.
“Some people are maybe a bit surprised that I pushed Scott into that position but I feel he’s got a lot to offer there.
“He’s got a lot of ability and he’s certainly capable of doing a good job on that side.
“He gave a really good performance today.”
