Town boss Neil Aspin wants to see a positive performance when his side host League Two side Rochdale at the Shay on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Town have scored 12 goals and conceded none in their pre-season programme so far, beating Scarborough 7-0 last weekend at knocking five past Brighouse on Tuesday.

Aspin says Dale will be ahead of schedule compared to Town in their pre-season preparations, but wants to see another good display from his team.

He said: “Rochdale are at a higher level than what we’re going to play at in the league.

“We know they’re in a better position - they’ll have trained for longer than us, they’ll have had more sessions, they’ll be fitter and it’ll be a good test for us but we’re looking forward to it.

“The result’s not important but the performance is.”

Rochdale have played one other game so far in their build-up to the new season, beating Northwich Victoria 5-0 on Tuesday.

Manager Keith Hill is in his second spell in charge of the club and has brought in seven new faces this summer, including former Town winger Scott Hogan from Hyde.

Matt Pearson was one of the departures from the Spotland outfit, and looks likely to line-up against his former club.
