James Walshaw has joined Town on loan from Darlington four months after he almost signed a permanent deal with the Shaymen.
And the 27-year-old is expected to go straight into the side for tonight’s rearranged Blue Square Bet North clash with Solihull Moors at the Shay.
Town boss Neil Aspin tried to sign the striker from Guiseley, where he scored 32 goals last season, in the summer and both parties agreed a deal.
But Town admitted defeat when the lure of full time football with Darlington proved too great a draw for the player.
“James was the top goalscorer in the division last season,” said Aspin. “I am not interested in what has happened since, I know he can score at our level.
“And he is a left sided player which is something we have been trying to get.”
After the hype surrounding the weekend’s FA Cup tie against Charlton, Aspin is looking for his players to pick up some points against Solihull tonight.
“We can’t afford to switch off,” said Aspin, who confirmed that James Marwood has returned to Gateshead.
“We know from performances against the likes of Vauxhall Motors and Tadcaster Albion that if we don’t play, teams will turn us over.
“We did not expect to beat Charlton, but we need to get points from both of the next two games.”
Aspin added that he expected the players to have recovered from their FA Cup exertions.
“I didn’t sleep much on Sunday because it had been such a big game and it was still having an effect on me on Monday,” he said.
“By the time they get to the ground tonight they should have had enough time to recover from everything.
“Solihull have picked up in the league with some good results recently and the fact we knocked them out of the FA Cup will make them determined.”
The Shaymen’s West Riding County Cup tie with Brighouse Town has been switched from the Shay to St Giles Road and will be played on Wednesday, November 30 (7.45pm)
