Brighouse Town under 18s’ game at Guiseley had to be abandoned last night after Town ‘keeper Matthew Hirst suffered a broken ankle in the closing moments.

Hirst came out in an attempt to thwart a Guiseley attack but collided with the on-rushing forward.

Guiseley went onto score from the move to make it 2-2. However, the game will have to be replayed at a date to be confirmed.

Hirst was due to have an operation on the ankle in Bradford Royal Infirmary today.

Brighouse dominated the first half with Suleman Rafiq netting after great work from Luke Hill.

Guiseley equalised midway through the second half but Brighouse immediately hit back when Hill countered quickly to release Rafiq who finished confidently.

The cruel events of the last few seconds mean that both clubs now await an FA ruling as to when and where the next game will take place
