OVENDEN West Riding are heading to the Shay for a fifth successive Halifax FA Saturday Cup final after beating Huddersfield Amateurs 4-0 in the second semi-final at Shroggs Park.
The holders were always in the driving seat against the under-strength Yorkshire Amateur League leaders to earn a clash with West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division rivals Brighouse Town.
West Riding got off to a great start, John Booth cashing in on great work from Steve Fullard to fire past Ben Orchard from six yards inside five minutes.
The midfield exchanges between Matt Jones and Martin Ayscough and the Elland club’s Dean Heppenstall and Robert Harwood were becoming hostile.
Damien Randall doubled the lead, some excellent play on the left giving him the space to strike a lovely 20-yard shot which took a slight deflection to beat Orchard.
Mick Palethorpe and Ian Hudson, with the help of the linesmen’s offside flag, dealt with the threat from Mark Heppenstall and Randall’s superb 30-yarder after half an hour virtually killed off Amateurs’ final dream.
With Sam Clark and Harwood to the fore, Amateurs had plenty of possession but they failed to trouble Ovenden ‘keeper Chris Moroney.
Fullard’s turn and strike from 15 yards on 70 minutes completed the scoring and Ovenden continued on the offensive up to the final whistle.
