Town close in on top spot

Brighouse Town 3 Nostell MW 0

Brighouse Town are just three points off top spot in the Baris NCEL Premier Division following a comprehensive victory at St Giles Road.

Town were prepared to work hard with James Hurtley and Joe Mitchell setting the tone in central midfield and wide players Ryan Hall and Danny Naidole grafting tirelessly on the flanks.

The home side were forced into an an early change when Ben Charlesworth replaced the injured Adam Wilson in central defence.

Town had the majority of the possession with Nostell mainly threatening on the counter attack before they took the lead with a fine goal.

The ball was spread wide to Ben Charlesworth who whipped in a great cross for James Hurtley to score with a diving header at the back post.

Town’s second goal came after 61 minutes when a mistake by Nostell keeper Jamie Ord allowed Tom Matthews to pounce and fire into the bottom corner. The hosts then made the game safe two minutes later when a superb through ball from Ryan Hall was clinically despatched by Matthews to make it 3-0.

The closest Nostell came to scoring was on 69 minutes when ex-Town player Graham Marchant curled a free kick towards the bottom corner which produced a brilliant save from Tom Taylor.
