HALIFAX have signed Mike Ratu, the former Leeds and Hull KR centre, for 2011.
And coach Matt Calland has also confirmed that Ryan Fieldhouse, the current BARLA full back and the son of former Fax forward John, has joined the club on trial.
Ratu, who had a mixed loan spell with the club in 2008, was released by Rovers coach Justin Morgan in the autumn.
The Oldham-based threequarter, who played Super League rugby for both the Rhinos and the Robins, bolsters a backline weakened by the long-term injury to centre Jon Goddard and the potential loss of Australian Dylan Nash, although rumours persist that the Queenslander will return to England before the start of the season.
"Mike's got all the tools to be a top centre, not just at this level but at Super League level too," said Calland.
He said it was "possible" that Ratu would make a second debut in Sunday's pre season game at Batley.
"He's never really fulfilled his potential, and I know he was really disappointed with how things turned out at Hull KR.
"For Mike, it's about getting him in the physical condition to make the most of his ability.
"If we can do that, I'm sure he'll be a great signing for us."
Fieldhouse, who starred for National Conference champions Leigh East in 2009-2010, is being looked at as potential cover for first choice number one Miles Greenwood, who played his first game for 18 months in the 50-8 loss at Bradford last weekend.
"We've lost Shad Royston and Miles is currently the only specialist full back at the club," said Calland.
"Ryan is the best amateur full back in the country, however you judge it, and we're going to take a look at him.
"His dad obviously has strong connections with the club so we'll see what happens.
"He's trained with us this week and looked pretty sharp so we'll see how things go.
"There's a chance he'll be involved against Batley on Sunday."
Sunday's game kicks off at 2pm.
