Halifax coach Karl Harrison has confirmed that key back rower Dane Manning will miss the rest of the season after breaking his jaw in two places.
Manning, the star of Fax’s Northern Rail Cup final win over Featherstone Rovers, is the third player to be ruled out for the year after Mick Nanyn and Iain Morrison.
Harrison said the former Leeds junior, one of five Batley players who followed their coach across West Yorkshire last autumn, had sustained the injury in the 32-28 league defeat at Leigh.
“Dane got a whack on his jaw but didn’t realise the severity of it and played on,” said the former Great Britain forward, whose players return to training tomorrow night after a week’s break.
“The X-rays have come back showing two separate fractures, so it’s a three month job.
“Dane’s absolutely devastated, I can’t emphasise just how much really.
“It’s a blow for the team too, because he’s been influential all year and my guess is that he’ll be right up there when the players vote for their player of the year.
“There’s not a lot we can apart from get on with things without him.”
Fax play their final Co-operative Championship fixture against Batley at the Shay on Sunday (3.0).
