Fax coach Karl Harrison declared yesterday’s opposed training session with Aussie greats Melbourne Storm at the Shay a resounding success - both on and off the field.
Storm took on Harrison’s side initially behind closed doors, but the public were allowed into the ground towards the end of the session to watch Craig Bellamy’s superstars go through their paces.
It also provided an opportunity to see former King Cross and Old Brods junior, and current England international, Gareth Widdop back in his home town.
“It was an extremely good session and I think both teams got plenty out of it,” said Harrison. “We treated it like an intense training session and everybody felt the benefit.
“It was a great honour for Halifax that it happened. Being on the same pitch as the Storm players was fantastic for our lads.
“Everybody got on great together and it was also good for the people of Halifax too.
“There was a great turnout of about 5-600 people and they will have appreciated seeing a club of the calibre of Melbourne Storm at the Shay.”
Melbourne were in Halifax to fine tune their preparations before they take on Leeds Rhinos in the World Club Challenge at Headingley on Friday.
