Halifax have re-signed their young centre Ben Heaton until the end of the 2015 season.
Heaton, an unheralded recruit from Championship One outfit Oldham in the autumn of 2011, would have been out of contract at the end of this year.
“We’re pleased with how Ben is developing and he deserved to be offered a contract extension,” said boss Karl Harrison, who takes his side - including Heaton - to Workington in the Championship on Sunday.
“He doesn’t say much, but he’s a tough kid and he’s a quality player.
“He’s someone you never have an issue with; he comes to training on time, trains extremely hard and plays the game the same way.
“He’s got the confidence and respect of the players around him too, which is important.”
Harrison revealed that Heaton had first caught his eye on a scouting trip to York in 2010, when he was still coaching Batley.
“I went to York to see them play Oldham,” said Harrison.
“I think it was Ben’s debut and he scored with virtually his first touch of the ball.
“I ended up signing three players from that game; Gareth Moore and Sean Hesketh for Batley and then Ben for Halifax.”
Trialists Keith Holden, the former Warrington and Widnes hooker, and Freddy Walker, the Huddersfield threequarter, have also penned one year deals.
