The career of Halifax’s Alex Lees will take another step forward this week when he plays for England Lions in a two-day game against Australia at Northampton.
The 20-year-old Yorkshire opener has been earmarked as a player of international potential with his selection for a side captained by Eoin Morgan and also including two more up-and-coming players in Warwickshire all-rounder Keith Barker and Sussex batsman Luke Wells.
Left-hander Lees has a Lord’s century to his name this season as well as making an unbeaten 275 against Derbyshire. He is averaging almost 60 in six Championship matches.
National selector Geoff Miller said: “We have looked to reward the players from the county circuit who have performed well this season and will look to push for places in future England squads.”
