There were centuries galore in a run-laden second round of the Halifax Parish Cup yesterday with Kier Litjens’ unbeaten 105 helping Northowram Hedge Top upset division-higher Bradshaw.

Teenager Litjens played a typically patient innings after a let-off or two, batting throughout the 45 overs and receiving backing from Gary Severn (43) and Hasnain Wajid (30) as hosts Hedge Top made 234 for six against a somewhat depleted bowling attack.

That proved enough as Bradshaw were always just behind the clock, ex-Northowram player Richard Moore making 48 and big Dean Cotton 45 in a reply of 218 for six.

Booth racked up surely one of the biggest scores in Parish Cup history - 426 for five - in a 160-run home win over Oxenhope.

A 246-run opening stand between Chris Shannon (144) and Patrick Thomas (119) set them on their way and Rob Laycock (68 no) and Andrew Truscott (40 no) kept the scoreboard ticking over at a rate of knots.

It was game up when Oxenhope slumped to 147 for seven but Booth were in no mood to rub the visitors’ noses in it, Duncan Tetley (64 no) and Reece Webb-Foster (48 no) lifting the total to 266 as their hosts used 10 bowlers.

Michael Midwood hit 189 and Greg Keywood took five for 20 as Warley won by 90 runs away to a Stones side from two divisions lower while Paul Smith’s unbeaten 113, which included nine sixes, helped Sowerby Bridge beat visitors Copley by 101 runs.

Raqeeb Younis’s stunning run of form continued as Premier Division leaders Jer Lane saw off a plucky challenge from division-lower visitors Queensbury by 30 runs.

The ex-Windhill player scored 130 for the second day running, the tall, classy opener adding 168 for the second wicket with Jonny Lister (89 no), who hit the last two balls of the innings for six to leave Queensbury needing 300 for victory.

Queensbury gave it a good go, spearheaded by Amjad Ali’s 84, but Younis took four wickets for good measure to see Lane through.

Holders and champions SBCI put their poor league form behind them to progress at the expense of fellow Premier side Mytholmroyd.

The unheralded Tom Conway made 40 and took four for 21 to help give them the upper hand after they had been 28 for three early on.

SBCI were still in trouble at 122 for seven but skipper Jamie Sykes (38 no) helped get them up to 211 for nine and that proved more than enough as ‘Royd were dismissed for 155.

Triangle were 65-run home win against Blackley thanks to strong contributions with bat and ball from skipper Kurtis Whippey (55 no and four for 39) and Jack Gledhill (69 and three for 42).

Thornton are the other team through, fifth-wicket pair Ross Soames (50 no) and Ben King (46 no) guiding them to a victory target of 198 at home to Outlane, for whom skipper Dan Crosland made 97.
