Dutch gold for Waites

Scott Waites followed up his win in the BDO World Darts Championship last month by claiming his second Dutch Open title on Sunday with a thrilling 3-2 win over Huddersield’s James Wilson.

The Lakeside champion produced some superb darts in the final set to overcome Wilson, after falling behind earlier in the match.

The 35-year-old Waites, formerly of Sowerby Bridge and a worker for Pennine Housing in Calderdale, was rarely troubled on his way to the final of the competition which had 2326 entrants.

Wilson proved to be different proposition, though, with Waites having to dig deep to win the 5,000 Euros on offer.
