Akuma Exiles are the new champions of the Halifax 7s after a scintillating day of action at Ovenden Park.

The Exiles, featuring England international Aaron Myers and former Halifax player Joe Knowles, were in sensational form, winning all seven of their games on a sun-soaked afternoon.

Having made a slow start to the competition, with Catterick Combine putting them under pressure in the opening match, the Exiles brushed all their rivals aside.

Defending champions Black Sheep had been tipped to push the Exiles all the way but they were brutal taken apart in the round robin stage. The Exiles ran out 56-7 winners before they thumped Calderdale side Baby Ballet in the next game.

Having finished top of the standings, the Exiles went on to face second-placed the Flying Lizards in the final for the Andrew Feather Memorial Cup.

The Lizards, winners of Rugby Rocks in Leeds, put up a brave fight but they were ultimately outclassed as the Exiles raced to victory.

Team Conditioned, last year’s Plate winners, enjoyed another successful visit to Halifax with victory in the Social event.

They beat Team Tom in a highly entertaining final, avenging their earlier defeat in the pool stages.
