Clubs must decide

Local league chiefs have no plans to step in to delay the start of the season next week.

The cold weather is predicted to continue into next week, when the Sowerby Bridge League (Tuesday) and Halifax League (Wednesday) are scheduled to get the ball rolling.

Halifax League president Stephen Helliwell is concerned that snow is slow to clear but said it would be up to clubs to decide whether matches could go ahead.

“Unfortunately we had matches called off due to snow covered greens on the first day of last season,” he said.

However, the Hebden Royd ABA has postponed its season-opening floodlit competition due to start at Old Town on Monday.
