Lewis Collier followed up his win in the Meltham Trophy by produced a superb second round to win the Page Trophy on Tuesday.

The four handicapper used his knowledge of his home Crosland Heath course to shoot nine under par and overhaul first round leader Luke Pilkington, of Bradley Park, by four shots.

The final event of the Halifax-Huddersfield Alliance’s winter season was taking place shortly after the summer solstice, having previously been rained off.

Entries for the 36-hole Page Trophy and the 18-hole Roger Heap Cup, won by Outlane’s Dave Knapton (12), were well down but those who did take part did so in ideal weather.

The course was also in excellent condition, the “ironed” greens providing very true surfaces.

Pilkington (1) held a slender lead after the first round of 69 from Collier and two more Crosland Heath player, Simon Whitham (13) and Richard Wimpenny (12).

Pilkington produced a very good second round, starting with birdies on the first five holes and an eagle on the par five 13th . However, he had a triple bogey on the 15th for a 67 and a total of 135.

Collier had seven gross birdies and two gross bogies for a nett 62 for a total of 131 to take the trophy.

A fine second round 69 by Graham Proctor (10) of Crosland Heath gave him third place from Wimpenny due to his better second round as both had totals of 140.

The prize for best gross score went to Chris Gaunt (1) of Dewsbury with 147. The best in the nett first round was Whitham’s 69 and best nett in the second round was Wimpenny’s 71.

The team trophy was not contested as only Crosland Heath could field a full team.

Nigel Hirst of Dewsbury won the Colin H Swain cup for top professional with a 76 and 70 for a total of 146. His assistant James Ward was runner-up with 76 and 71 for 147.

Knapton won the Roger Heap Cup by one shot, with a nett 69, from Richard Barker (15) of Crosland Heath and Charlie Burton (12) of Castlefields, Barker took second on a back nine count-back.

RA new cup donated by Alliance president Darren Arber from West End was presented to the Professional Order of Merit winner Richard Lambert of Crosland Heath.

He extended his lead over Tom Wild of Bradley Park from one point to three in the Page Trophy.
