Dolphins sunk by Greetland

HxTTC Dolphins and Greetland Social B played out a thriller in Division Two of the Pennine Tool Hire Halifax Table Tennis Winter League with the latter edging the verdict 5-4.

Ken Scott gave Dolphins a superb start by beating Chris Lowson in five sets 5-11, 11-6, 5-11, 11-6, 11-6 and the next four sets were won by Greetland as Kevin Johnson beat Denise Scott 3-11, 12-14, 4-11, Steve Rathmell saw off Eric Greenwood in four games 0-11, 11-4, 7-11, 12-14. Lowson enjoyed a 12-14, 4-11, 10-12 success against Denise Scott and Rathmell beat Ken Scott, coming from two games in arrears to win 11-4, 11-3, 6-11, 7-11, 7-11.

The sixth rubber saw Greenwood beat Johnson in three straight games 15-13, 11-7, 11-8 to make the match score 4-2 in Greetland’s favour. In the following set Rathmell beat Denise Scott 9-11, 4-11, 13-15 to start his season off with a maximum.

The penultimate set saw Greenwood win his second set of the evening with a four game victory against Lowson 11-8, 11-8, 11-13, 11-3 and in the final set Ken Scott also claimed his second by beating Johnson 11-3, 11-2, 9-11, 11-7 for a final match score of 5-4.

Other results of note saw HxTTC Central 1 open their season with a 9-0 success over newly promoted youngsters HxTTC Tradesmen. HxTTC Central 2 also won by the same scoreline as there first team against a weakened HxTTC Rams.

Old Town Hares beat HxTTC Evergreens by 7- 2, Cliff Edens and Justin Harris recording maximums and Phil Ward winning the other set.
