ALMOST 400 budding young footballers will converge on the Shay next week for three consecutive nights of thrilling action.
Several junior teams have signed up for this year’s Junior Euro Cup competition which is organised by The Shay Stadium Football Community Scheme with backing from the Halifax Courier and Dews Motor Group.
Teams at under eight, under nine and under 10 will contest the event which is expected to draw over 750 spectators over the three nights.
Chief organiser Lee Ashforth from the Shay Stadium Community Football scheme has been really pleased with the response, saying: “I was first involved with this competition six years ago and this is my third consecutive year of organising this event.
“Each year the number of teams has increased and due to this we have managed to get the event at The Shay. Having played at the Shay myself I know what a buzz it gives you and the fact that almost 400 children will have the chance to play there over the three nights is phenomenal.
“The children will hope that there is also a good fan base there. The more support there is then the better atmosphere the children will experience.”
The under eights kick proceedings off on Monday, May 14, with the under nines following on the Tuesdsay leaving the under 10s to bring the curtain down on the tournament on Wednesday, may 16.
The matches will run from 5.30pm until 7.30pm and entry costs are £2.50 per adult and £1.50 for under 16s and over 65s.
Everybody attending will also receive a complimentary programme.
