Finley Hickey went close to winning the the junior Waterloo in Blackpool - the most prestigious competion in junior bowls - losing 21-11 to Jamie king of Shropshire in the final.
In his first game Hickey, whose father Graham has won the Yorkshire Merit title twice and is captain of the Yorkshire senior home team, beating J Owen of the Potteries 21-15,
He went on to beat R Faulkner 21-9, J McDermot 21-16 and J Dicken of Staffordshire 21-15, before koicking out his Yorkshire county team mate, Huddersfield’s Harry Lumb 21-11 in the semi final.
Hickey played very well in final trailing 10-9 only to lose most ends by inches to go 20-9 nehing before King clinched victory.
It was a fantasic achievement by the 12 year old, pictured with King, playing in the under 18 competion which will be screened on Sky Sports later in the year.
