Ben Rhydding III 0 Halifax Ladies 10

KATE Walsh scored five times as Halifax boosted their Yorkshire One title hopes in a game switched from a frost-bound Ilkley pitch to Park Lane High, Siddal.

Halifax were in command from the start and scored five goals in each half to made it nine wins out of 10 in their quest for a second successive promotion.

However, they still trail unbeaten Bingley Bees by two points with a game in hand and the two clashes between the pair will be crucial in the battle for the title.

Halifax were soon peppering the Ben Rhydding goal, aided by some excellent passing by all the team.

A beautiful pass from sweeper Alison Mcmanus made it easy for Walsh to dribble into the D and score the opener with an excellent strike.

Emma Crawford showed great skills in beating the keeper one-on-one and Zoe Hartley and Jo Love combined well at a short corner for Love to make it 3-0.

Walsh showed strength and determination to drive past players and she added another two goals to complete a first half hat-trick and put Halifax on course for a big win.

There was no let-up and Zoe Hartley scored the next after Love had helped take the ball around the Rhydding defence.

Emma Bedford scored from a quickly-taken corner and Katie Love’s lovely pass enabled Jo Love to tap the ball home.

Two more fantastic goals from Walsh completed Halifax’s tally and added to their impressive goal difference.

Garforth I 8

Halifax III 2

A HALIFAX team who hadn’t played since the end of November found it hard going against a Garforth side determined to gain promotion from Yorkshire Four.

The visitors took an early lead, a well worked move ending in Katie Shannon slotting the ball neatly into the back of the net.

Hannah James bravely volunteered to have a go in goal, and despite her best efforts Halifax were 3-1 down at half time.

Halifax marked better in the second half but even so Garforth went 8-1 ahead, though Halifax had some good breaks with forwards Rachel Hoyle, Kate Wright and Steph Jones beating the defence but failing to find the net.

At least Halifax finished on a high. They were awarded a short corner close and everyone came forward, defender Steph Hoyle being rewarded with a fine goal.
