Brighouse Sports and Elland WMC are locked together at the top of the Halifax League heading into the second half of the season.

Last year’s champions - Brighouse won Division Two and Elland again lifted the Division One title - both have 97 points after the opening 12 fixtures.

Brighouse lead on points aggregate and the pair have a handy 14-point advantage over third-placed Crossroads.

Elland took a two-point advantage over their rivals into Wednesday’s games but they were away - at Mytholmroyd BC - while Brighouse had green advantage over Asa Briggs.

In the end both could feel satisfied with their efforts, Elland winning 8-4 (188-152)and Brighouse coming out on top 10-2 (202-167).

Wendell Adams, Clive Austin, Roy Nicholson and David Warburton were Mytholmroyd’s winners while Graeme Wilson made a rare appearance for Elland and won 21-6 against David Wright while Martin Griffiths also won to single figures.

None of the Asa Briggs players were prepared to roll over at Russell Way - all scored at least 12 chalks - but all except Mark Regan and Tony Riley won for Brighouse.

Crossroads lost more ground when they went down 8-4 (196-166) at Clayton Victoria with Andrew Tate a 21-8 winner for the hosts.

Crossroads B are 21 points adrift at the bottom after being held 6-6 at home by Siddal.

Siddal only had four winners but they took the two aggregate points by 168-167 thanks particularly to Graham Hickey, Terry Ness and Stuart Forster, who won to single figures.

Sowerby West End are back in the top half of the table thanks to a 9-3 (192-168) win over Oxenhope while Hill Crest could only manage a 7-5 home win over Todmorden and remain too close to the foot of the table for their comfort.

Veterans league leaders Mytholmroyd suffered only a second defeat of the season when they went down 6-2 (113-108) at Sowerby WE last week.

West End B and Hipperholme will contest tonight’s Ewart Lord final sponsored by The Tower House Hotel at Hove Edge BC (6.45).

West End will be playing off 80 and Hipperholme off 70.
