Luke and Oliver beat small field

Probably the smallest ever field for the event - just 17 pairs - contested Tuesday’s Halifax-Huddersfield Winter Alliance for the Ron Parkinson Trophy at Marsden.

A strong, gusty wind made it very difficult and a score of 31 points was enough for Crosland Heath’s Luke Pilkington (3) and Oliver Shaw (7) to take top honours.

The second am-am pair were Dave Deadman (8) of Outlane and Steve Sandie (6) of Bradley Hall with 30 points in the DW Developments-backed event.

There were six pro-am combinations and the highly-successful partnership of Gareth Evans (scr) and Mark Campbell (7) of Crow Nest Park notched another win with 30 points from Jack Pearcey (scr) and Mick O’Hara (8) of Bradley Park with 29 points.

It was sunny and fairly warm and the course was mostly dry but it was almost impossible to stop the ball on the greens when hitting downwind.

The next Alliance is a re-scheduled one at Meltham next Tuesday.
