Martin Greenwood and Bev Tinkler won the Halifax League’s Age UK Insurance sponsored Over 50’s Mixed Pairs at Hill Crest on Sunday.
They had a 15-8 victory over Tony Clissitt and Maria Lodge in the final.
Greenwood and Tinkler’s first game, against Roger Grey and Jean Twiddle, was a close contest with the scores level at nine.
The champions-to-be then fell behind by 11-13 before taking the last two ends to win by 15-13.
After winning their next game, against P. Copley and M. Crossley by 15-4, they took an early 8-1 lead in their quarter-final against Alan Fleming and Sue Rawnsley.
Fleming and Rawnsley were within striking distance at 7-11 but a four at the next end clinched the game for Greenwood and Tinkler.
In their semi-final, against Brian and Madeleine Hildred, they again began well to lead by 12-2. Again their opponents rallied to within three points at 13-10 before they won the game with a pair at the last end.
Clissitt and Lodge opened with a 15-5 victory over Tony Senior and Dorothy Walker, then defeated David Helliwell and Christine Pilling by the same margin.
In their semi-final against Margaret Holt and Dennis Hartley they led by 7-4. They fell behind by 10-11 before seizing the advantage with a four at the next end and finishing off the game with a single at the last.
In the final, the scores were level at five before Clissitt and Lodge edged ahead by 7-5. A break of seven took Greenwood and Tinkler to within two points of victory and, after a further single to their opponents, they clinched the title with singles from the last two ends.
