HUDDERSFIELD’S Nick Marsh fired rounds of 72 and 74 around Halmstad GC in Sweden to help ensure England will compete for medals in the European Amateur Team Championship.

The England amateur champion is part of a six-man team which will take on Ireland as they seek to progress through the match play stage in the hope of striking gold.

Marsh carded seven birdies during the course of the two rounds and on each day was one of England’s five counting scores as they placed seventh from the stroke play, from which eight teams progressed.

The team were 10 over in total, four over on day one and six over on day two. Jimmy Mullen (Royal North Devon) was one under in round two and Ashley Chesters (Hawkstone Park) level par.

England’s boys and women’s teams both took first place in their qualifying events.
