Promising start for Aked

Ashley Aked made a winning debut for Halifax Police BC at the Sharkeys ABC show at Harehills WMC, Leeds.

Aked was up against the much taller southpaw Daniel Patterson from Kellys ABC but he put his nerves aside to win every round.

Head coach Mick Rowe said Aked was another youngster who had taken up the sport in the wake of the London Olympics.

Rowe said the role played by assistant coach and fell runner Chris Godridge in getting the boxers fit was another factor in their successes.

Tickets for the club’s next show at their Ladyship Mills base on Friday, April 26 are available from Rowe (07870266002).

Halifax Police BC are also hosting the Yorkshire Challenge Belt show on Friday, May 17 and hope to have a few of their own boxers in action to provide a big finish to the season.

It has been another successful spell with their fighters involved in over 60 bouts and five reaching championship finals.
