Rapid Blackburn

Luddenden Dene’s Dale Blackburn almost caught the hare at a recent inter-school cross country race.

Competing with around 50 other runners from the Calder family of schools (year three), Blackburn led from the start and romped home with half a field to spare to secure victory.

Along with team members Benedict Freeman (6th), Bradley Stafford (16th), Sam Wardell (30th), Samuel Burns (31st), Chris Newsome (8th), Hattie Gibson (11th) and Lily Helm (12th) the team from Luddenden Dene also came home with the Year 3 trophy.

Around 200 children from schools in the Calder Valley took part in the competition at Burnley Road Academy.

In the unseasonally warm weather, children from Years 3 and 4 competed over 900 metres, while those in Years 5 and 6 ran 1,200 metres taking in an uphill route through Red Acre Wood.
