Mark Regan of Brighouse Sports won the Halifax Association’s P.I. Consultants- sponsored Merit at Akroydon Victoria on Sunday.
He had a 21-15 victory over Luddenden Foot’s Gareth Swain in the final.
Regan began his march to the final with a 21-10 victory over Robert Hitchen of Elland WMC before winning 21-6 in his quarter-final against Hill Crest’s Brian Holroyd.
His semi-final, against West End’s Bernard Megson, was a closer contest, although Regan held a convincing lead at 17-9. Megson rallied to reduce the arrears at 14-17 but Regan held off his challenge to win by 21-16.
A break of 10 in the middle of the game was the key to Swain’s 21-6 first round victory over his Luddenden Foot team-mate Phil Brown.
A break of six singles against homester Gareth Coates was instrumental in securing victory by 21-10 in his quarter-final game.
He faced another Akroydon Victoria player, Ian Smith, in the semi-final and after trailing 4-5 he put together a break of six. He maintained his lead to the end to win by 21-16.
In the final , the two were level at 3-3 before Regan took the lead with a break of eight. After Swain had responded with two pairs, Regan moved ahead 15-7. Swain fought back to 14-15 and again at 15-16 before Regan ran out.
