Rishworthians strengthened their lead at the top of Yorkshire Three with another maximum points haul, winning 33-12 at Burley.

It is always difficult at Burley where the home side use their sloping pitch to great advantage, but the visitors set off in fine style.

While they had a 21-5 lead at half-time, it was not all plain sailing for Rishworthians, who had to endure spells of pressure either side of the break.

But they held on and then finished strongly claiming another bonus point in a five-try victory, which at times produced some sparkling rugby.

Their win might have been even more emphatic as the had three more tries ruled out for forward passes.

Within two minutes of the start they were called back for the first of these as centre Kurt Sutcliffe crossed the line. Then flanker Chris Dyson charged down a kick but the ball went dead.

They were soon on the scoresheet, however, as fullback Aaron Canning caught a clearance kick and put player-coach Damian Ball on a strong run. He found No 8 Nick Faulkner, who ran in under the posts. Canning added the conversion.

Two minutes later Canning started a move in a similar manner and was there to complete it, bursting through the line with pace and style. He converted his own try.

After the fine start Rishworthians went to sleep and with some sloppy play allowed a glimmer of hope to the home side. They conceded a try from a poor tap down at a lineout near their own line.

The visitors continued to make mistake after mistake, before rallying and then finished the half in style.

First, Faulkner was called back for a forward pass as the visitors subjected the Burley line to constant attack, which bore fruit as Sutcliffe touched down wide out. Canning added the conversion.

Ball was called back for another forward pass just before the break.

Rishworthians knew they would have to defend in the second half as Burley used the slope well.

They put the visitors under pressure and scored a converted try with the No 8 crashing over.

Rishworthians held on and then took complete control again. From a scrum the ball went along the line in textbook style for left wing Anthony Shoesmith to score in the corner.

With a bonus point secured, they finished strongly and Faulkner intercepted to put right wing Chris Flanagan in for a fifth try at the end, with Canning adding the conversion to end the game.
