TERRY and Cathy Ness won the Sowerby Bridge Association’s Michael Telford Mixed Pairs, sponsored by David Hall, at Hill Crest on Sunday, defeating Martin Greenwood and Bev Tinkler by 15-13 in the final.
Greenwood and Tinkler started well to lead by 4-0 but the Nesses responded to level the score at four and six then moved ahead to lead by 10-7.
The scores were level again at 10 before the Nesses edged ahead again by 13-10. A single to each brought to score to 14-11 in favour of the Nesses and although Greenwood and Tinkler won the next two ends with singles, it was the Nesses who held on to win by 15-13.
The Nesses began the day with a 15-5 victory over Margaret Holt and Charlie Holt-Conway but faced a tougher game against Simon and Nickie Conway. The led by 14-8 but the Conways reduced the arrears to a single point before the Nesses clinched victory by 15-13. They then reached the final with a 15-5 victory in their semi-final against Dave Blackburn and Sue Hiley.
Greenwood and Tinkler opened with a 15-3 victory over J. & D. Asquith, then won by 15-8 against Richard Buxton and Jean Gornall. In the quarter-final, they led by 10-3 against Brian Hildred and Julie Marsden before winning by 15-10 and, following a similar pattern, were 11-3 ahead of Gary Timewell and Sue Brennend before winning their semi-final by 15-12.

THE Elland Association’s Open Pairs competition, sponsored by Briggs Priestley Ltd, will be played at Kingston BC on Sunday, June 26 (11.0).
The event is open to male and female bowlers and entries at £5 per pair will be taken up to the draw time of 10.45am on the day.
