It is a big weekend for Halifax Hockey Club with the men’s first team and women’s second team looking to claim honours at Park Lane High School, Exley.
The men need to win their final game against Brigg seconds on Sunday (2.00) to secure the Yorkshire Two title. They are two points behind Leeds thirds, who have completed their fixtures.
Halifax are likely to be promoted regardless of their result, with third place City of York thirds needing to win and overturn a goal difference of 15.
The women’s seconds will be looking to continue a sensational run when they face Lincoln Roses firsts in the Yvonne Horner Shield Cup final on Saturday (11.30).
They extended their unbeaten run to 20 matches last weekend with an 8-0 hammering of Netherwood firsts, finishing nine points clear in Yorkshire Three.
Halifax dominated the first half and Netherwood didn’t manage a shot but the home side only led through a Dani Parker goal at half-time.
The floodgates then opened. Parker netted two more for her hat-trick and Ruth Prosser (2), Rachel Hoyle and Margaret Bottomley added to the tally.
Ruth Bury completed the rout with a penalty flick after Adele Cocker’s shot was stopped on the line by a defender’s foot.
Halifax men’s seconds completed their programme with a 7-1 win away to Thirsk firsts in Yorkshire Three, and have finished seventh.
In Division Five North, the men’s thirds lost 9-2 to City of York fifths and have finished eighth.
The fourths lost 5-2 to Bingley Bees firsts in Division Six North and although they finished next to bottom, only Bradford thirds look likely to go down
