Union match washed out

Local golf was hard hit at the weekend with the Halifax, Huddersfield Union’s match against Harrogate at Outlane on Sunday washed out.

The Yorkshire inter-District League contest will not be replayed and the sides take 18 points each - a blow to Chris Mear’s side who had high hopes of making it three wins out of three.

Saturday’s Ogden Cup, the feature event of Halifax GC’s festival fortnight, was called off shortly before the start and will now take place on Saturday, August 11.

“It was so wet underfoot,” explained Halifax official David Peel.

“The greens were excellent but the fairways were really wet and we want people to enjoy playing in the event.”

It was no-go for Bradley Hall’s Saturday competition for the second week running.
